Engines and Drivetrains

Like generations before, the 2019 Jeep Wrangler is purpose built for off-road ability. Its various performance features reflect that goal.

There are two engines available in the 2019 Wrangler. For most Wrangler models, power comes from a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6. Its 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque provide plenty of grunt for daily driving and off-road trails near Middlebury, VT and Rutland, VT. If you're looking for better fuel efficiency, consider the new 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It offers 270 horsepower, a 3,500-pound max tow rating, and an EPA estimated 23 mpg city.

During normal, dry driving conditions, new Jeep models operate primarily in rear-wheel drive, but each trim level comes with a robust four-wheel drive system that's ready when you need it. Three distinct four-wheel drive systems are available.

  • Selec-Trac 4x4 comes with a full-time mode that can automatically engage four-wheel drive when slipping and slick conditions are detected.
  • Command-Trac 4x4 lets you shift to four-wheel drive on the fly. Its standard low range gear makes it easier to crawl over challenging off-road obstacles.
  • Rock-Trac 4x4 is standard on Rubicon models. Its locking front and rear differentials, upgraded transfer case, and sway bar disconnect system make for truly exceptional off-road ability.

Construction and Body Styles

While Jeep has outfitted the 2019 Wrangler with some modernized features, it still adheres to its proven body-on-frame formula. This is not your average grocery-getting crossover -- the 2019 Wrangler is a serious SUV with solid axles and impressive durability. Plus, you can still remove the top and doors for open-air driving.

Interior Design

In keeping with the its legacy, the 2019 Wrangler has a utilitarian interior design that's ready for your most rugged adventures. For example, the Wrangler comes standard with a wash-out interior. If your off-road treks end up getting mud, sand, or other materials inside your Wrangler, you can remove the floor mats and rinse it out with a hose. That's because it comes with one-way floor valves that drain out water quickly and effectively. In the rear cargo area, you can find hidden in-floor storage area for important items. A locking glove box offers extra security. If you're looking for extra utility, you can add the available Trail Rail System or Jeep Utility Grid.

There are some more comfort-oriented amenities available in the new Wrangler as well. Cloth seats are standard, but leather upholstery is available in certain trim levels. An optional premium audio system can help you enjoy your tunes or podcasts to the fullest, and a dual-zone climate control can help you and your passengers stay comfortable.
